This year's, participants explored the intersection of health and security – as well as the Private Sector’s role in the future of global health. These discussions surveyed promising and successful models, especially those which have resulted in greater investments in emerging markets. Country leaders, key global health actors and private sector stakeholders gathered at these GHD forums to discuss the synergy of health, development and global security.

Tom Speechley
Partner, The Abraaj Group

Mr. Speechley discussed the private sector’s motivation to provide health and development solutions at scale, stressing the importance of retaining economic development in countries which are being stifled by double disease burdens.

Gary Cohen
Founder, Together for Girls; Executive Vice President, BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company)

Mr. Cohen highlighted the impact of violence on society, and how this impact fundamentally undermines the achievements of global health priorities.
Tore Godal
Special Adviser, Office of the Prime Minister of Norway

Mr. Godal spoke on the Norwegian Government’s commitment to develop specific recommendations outlining the steps which must be taken by the global community to prevent another health emergency such as Ebola.
Christoph Benn 
Director, External Relations, The Global Fund

Mr. Benn spoke on the difficulties of the “last mile” of health resource deployment and the private sector’s potential to make an important impact in this area of global health.

HIS EXCELLENCY Alpha Condé
President of Guinea

H. E. Alpha Conde was honored for his contributions to global health. During his acceptance speech, the President reflected on the 2014 Ebola outbreak in his country, and his hopes for the future.

Minister Paradis spoke about Canada’s ongoing commitment to Maternal and Child health, and, despite the great successes which have been made in the area of MNCH over the past 5 years, more still needs to be done.

Dr. Tom Frieden
Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Dr. Frieden discussed the need to reinforce the global capacity to find and stop health threats, and the need to strengthen our health system.

Marc Van Ameringen
Executive Director, Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN)

Mr. Van Ameringen highlighted the role nutrition plays in global health, and how food and nutrition shortages can be a major driver of insecurity across the world.
